HELL in the Bible — The Final Destination of Rejected Grace and the Hope of Salvation

Key Scripture: Luke 16:23 (KJV)
“And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments…”

The Bible speaks clearly about a place called hell. It is described as a place of eternal separation from God.

According to the gospel message found in 1 Corinthians 15:1–4, salvation is offered freely today through Jesus Christ. Those who reject this gospel remain under condemnation.

John 3:36 says:

“He that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”

Many people today deny or ignore the reality of hell.

Some say:

• Hell is only symbolic
• Hell does not exist
• Hell is temporary

However, Jesus spoke about hell more than anyone else in the Bible.

Matthew 10:28 says:

“Fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Hell is the final destination of those who reject God’s salvation.

Hell in the Bibe: H — HORROR OF HELL

Luke 16:24

[24] So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’ – https://bible.com/bible/111/luk.16.24.NIV

Hell is described as a place of conscious suffering.

The Bible explains that hell includes:

• Horrible torment without relief (Revelation 14:11)
• Hopeless separation from God (2 Thessalonians 1:9)
• Hunger and thirst that are never satisfied (Luke 16:24)
• Hearing the truth too late (Luke 16:27–28)

Hell is a place of deep regret and unending agony.

Hell in the Bibel: E — ETERNAL PUNISHMENT

Matthew 25:46

[46] “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.” – https://bible.com/bible/111/mat.25.4-46.NIV

The Bible teaches that hell is not temporary. It is eternal.

Scripture describes:

• Everlasting punishment (Revelation 20:10)
• Endless torment day and night (Mark 9:48)
• Eternal fire prepared for judgment (Matthew 25:41)
• Everlasting separation from God (2 Thessalonians 1:9)

Hell is not annihilation. It is eternal punishment.

Hell in the Bible: L — LOST WITHOUT CHRIST

Romans 3:23

[23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, [24] and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. – https://bible.com/bible/111/rom.3.23-24.NIV

Every human being is born a sinner. The Bible teaches that humanity is:

• Lost in sin by nature (Psalm 51:5)
• Living under condemnation (Romans 5:18)
• Lacking righteousness before God (Isaiah 64:6)
• Led away by deception (2 Corinthians 4:4)

Without Christ, humanity remains spiritually lost.

Hell in the Bible: L — LIMITED TIME FOR SALVATION

2 Corinthians 6:2

[2] For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation. – https://bible.com/bible/111/2co.6.2.NIV

The opportunity for salvation is limited. The Bible reminds us:

• Life is short and uncertain (James 4:14)
• Death comes once (Hebrews 9:27)
• Delaying salvation is dangerous (Proverbs 27:1)
• Many leave this world unprepared (Luke 12:20)

Today may be someone’s last opportunity to believe the gospel.

HOPE THROUGH THE GOSPEL

Romans 5:8

[8] But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. – https://bible.com/bible/111/rom.5.8.NIV

Even though humanity is lost, God provided a way of salvation.

The gospel reveals:

• Christ died for our sins (John 3:16)
• The cross brings healing from sin (1 Peter 2:24)
• Heaven is promised to believers (John 14:2–3)
• Christ’s resurrection gives hope (1 Corinthians 15:20)

The gospel offers rescue from eternal judgment.

ESCAPE FROM WRATH

1 Thessalonians 5:9

[9] For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. – https://bible.com/bible/111/1th.5.9.NIV

Those who believe in Christ are saved from God’s coming wrath. Salvation provides:

• Escape through faith in Christ (Romans 5:9)
• Freedom from condemnation (Romans 8:1)
• Everlasting life through grace (Ephesians 2:8–9)
• Security through the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13)

Salvation rescues sinners from eternal judgment.

LIFE THROUGH CHRIST

John 5:24

[24] “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. – https://bible.com/bible/111/jhn.5.24.NIV

Jesus offers eternal life to those who believe in Him.

Through Christ we receive:

• Life through grace (Romans 6:23)
• Freedom from the power of sin (Romans 6:14)
• Light replacing darkness (John 8:12)
• Joy in God’s presence forever (Psalm 16:11)

Christ offers eternal life instead of eternal death.

Hell is real. But God does not desire anyone to go there. 2 Peter 3:9 says:

“The Lord is… not willing that any should perish.”

That is why God sent His Son. Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again (1 Corinthians 15:1–4).

Ask yourself today:

Am I certain of my salvation?
Have I believed the gospel?
Am I trusting Christ alone?

Acts 16:31 says:

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.”

Today you can:

• Believe the gospel
• Receive forgiveness
• Escape eternal judgment

Hell is a place of real torment. Hell is eternal separation from God. Humanity is lost without Christ. Life gives only limited time to respond. The gospel provides hope for sinners. Salvation offers escape from wrath. Eternal life is found in Christ alone. People in hell wish for one more chance.

You still have yours today.
